This Hungarian breed is considered the "kobe beef" of pigs. They were once the most popular pig for farmers, mostly because of their fat which was turned in to lard and used for everyday cooking. With the advent of commercialized cooking oils, these pigs were no longer needed for their lard. Combined with a longer growth period, there has been a steady decline in farmers who raise these pigs. We LOVE them. Their extra yummy fat actually runs throughout their meat, and you'll get a marbled and dark meat, that in some cases looks like beef! Additionally, nothing beats organically raised, happy and well-loved pork. We swear you can taste the difference! This heritage breed takes a bit longer to reach market weight, but their longer life means a lot more apples and organic veggies for their happy bellies. All of our animals are lovingly cared for on our farm and we want our friends and neighbors to benefit as well.
